Didn't the Gardner family evolve from people who tended gardens?
No. The Gardiner family cohort evolved from the Guards.. The Gardner family didn't plant vegetables, They planted people, on plantations and managed them. In England you are not Colonies, you are the plantations of the Lord. One of the many functions of the Guards and or Gardners was to administer the plantation system. They used a medieval cypher to keep the unenlightened from finding out who owned and ran the plantation system.
